ALRIGHT, here’s the secret to lowering your stress when it comes to entertaining your kids….
A PLAN!
THIS IS JUST A PICTURE; SCROLL DOWN FOR THE PRINTABLE
I realize that’s not exactly revolutionary but I SWEAR having a plan, whether or not ANYTHING actually goes according to the plan, is the secret sauce.
The trick is to…SIMPLIFY the plan.
I have a 4, 5, & 7 year old that I’m entertaining aaaalll summer long so, I made this weekly Summer Schedule & it has helped me TREMENDOUSLY.
I simply print it off every Sunday afternoon, spend about 30 minutes populating the categories, & then collect the supplies so that Im ready to go for Monday morning.
- MONDAY – MAKE IT (ex: craft) & MOVE IT (physical activity; ex: we love going for hikes)
- TUESDAY – STEM (ex: science experiment; this one was fun) & SERVICE (ex: Acts of Service or Kindness; here’s an easy example)
- WEDNESDAY – WHAT’S COOKIN (ex: baking or cooking) & WATER (ex: at home water day, pool, etc)
- THURSDAY – ESSENTIAL SKILLS (ex: home ec, safety, social, daily living skills/tasks, etc) & EXCUSION (meaning… go somewhere!)
- FRIDAY – FUN FRIDAY (meaning…whatever your heart desires & your wallet can handle ;P)
9 times out of 10, the week does NOT go exactly like I planned it on this paper and that’s PERFECTLY okay.
The peace of mind I get from simply having a default plan is PRICELESS.
Unintended Perks:
- Manages eeeeverybody’s expectations. Like, “look, kids….BEST CASE SCENARIO, this is what we’re doing this week”
- Increases Independent Playing! Hand to the bible, my kids play NOTICEBLY better by themselves (i.e. without me providing instruction) if I intentionally engage them with a couple activities a day.
You could totally print this, laminate it, & hang it up in a place every body will see it or you can do it like me & just print it off every week.
I wanted to make this easy on ya’ll so there are two links to the FREE printable below. Choose whichever works for you.
I hope this makes planinng just a little bit easier!
Love,
Kaila
